How to Convert a PDF to PNG Images
PNG images are useful when a PDF page needs to become a picture while keeping text and line edges free from JPEG compression artifacts. PDFSwan PDF to PNG renders each page at your selected resolution and saves the images together in a ZIP file.

Use PNG for screenshots of documents, diagrams, and page images you intend to place in another design. PNG encoding is lossless for the rendered pixels, but rendering still converts PDF text and vector shapes into a fixed-resolution picture. Increasing zoom later does not restore the original vector detail.
Step-by-step instructions
Load the source file
Open the PDF to PNG workspace using the button above. Choose the source file from your device or drag it into the drop area. Wait for preparation to finish and check the displayed filename. Work from a copy you can retain for comparison, and clear the workspace if you selected the wrong source.
Set Resolution
Choose 96 DPI for small previews, 144 DPI for a balanced export, or 200 DPI for more detail. More pixels mean larger images and more browser memory. PNG files can be substantially larger than JPEGs of photographic pages.
Prepare the page selection
The workspace exports all pages. To convert only a chapter or one diagram page, use Extract pages first, download that selection, and then load it into PDF to PNG.
Download and verify the result
After processing finishes, select Download ZIP. Save the new file before closing the tab or creating another result. Open the actual download in a compatible application and compare it with the source. Check the content and format you need rather than relying only on the success message.
A practical example
For a six-page instruction sheet containing diagrams and small labels, start at 200 DPI. Create and download the ZIP, extract the six PNGs, and inspect the smallest labels at the size you will use them. If the archive is too large for your destination, try 144 DPI or compare JPG output.
Tips for a better result
Understand the background
The renderer uses a white page background. Do not expect a transparent cutout or a separate layer for each diagram. The result is a single complete picture of each PDF page.
Keep the PDF as a source
The PNGs do not retain selectable text, hyperlinks, form fields, or editable PDF objects. Save the original document if you need those features or want to export a different resolution later.
Respect the rendering limits
Image-based tools accept at most 80 pages. A page can use no more than 16 million rendered pixels, with 160 million rendered pixels per task. Lower resolution or extract a smaller section if the task exceeds those budgets. Browser memory can still limit a job below the maximums.
Troubleshooting
Why are the PNG files large?
PNG preserves rendered pixels without JPEG-style lossy encoding. Photo-heavy pages and high resolution can create large files.
Why does the tool ask for fewer pages?
Image exports are limited to 80 pages and a total rendering budget. Lower DPI or work with smaller extracted sections.
File limits, privacy and keeping your originals
PDFSwan processes document bytes locally in your browser without a document upload. The task limits are 50 MB total input, 60 files, and 300 PDF pages. Actual performance depends on your device and browser memory. Encrypted PDFs are rejected; choose an unlocked copy you are authorized to edit. Keep your originals, because page operations and edits may change bookmarks, forms, links, annotations, and existing digital signatures.
The home page includes Google Analytics and DeanonX site-tracking scripts. Local document processing does not mean the website has no third-party tracking. Download the result before closing the tab, and use Clear workspace to remove files from the active workspace when finished.
Frequently asked questions
Does PDF to PNG preserve transparency?
The current renderer uses a white background for page exports.
Can I download all pages at once?
Yes. They are bundled into one ZIP, with one PNG per page.
Ready to try it?
Follow the steps with a copy of your document, then check the downloaded result before sharing it.
