How to Resize PDF Pages to A4, Letter or A5
Consistent page dimensions can make a mixed PDF easier to print or distribute. PDFSwan Resize PDF fits each page’s visible content onto a new standard portrait page, preserving its proportions rather than stretching it to fill the sheet.
Open Resize PDF ↗When to use Resize PDF
Choose Resize PDF when the output needs A4, US Letter, or A5 pages. This changes the paper canvas and scales visible content. It is different from cropping margins, changing text font size, or reducing file size through compression.
Step-by-step instructions
Load the source file
Open the Resize PDF workspace using the button above. Choose the source file from your device or drag it into the drop area. Wait for preparation to finish and check the displayed filename. Work from a copy you can retain for comparison, and clear the workspace if you selected the wrong source.
Choose the target Page size
Select A4 portrait, US Letter, or A5 portrait. Every output page uses that selection, even if the source contains several different sizes. Landscape content can therefore leave spare space on a portrait output.
Prepare interactive documents carefully
The resize workflow embeds visible page content into new pages. Form fields, links, and annotations are not copied. Keep a source copy and use another workflow if those features are essential.
Download and verify the result
After processing finishes, select Download PDF. Save the new file before closing the tab or creating another result. Open the actual download in a compatible application and compare it with the source. Check the content and format you need rather than relying only on the success message.
A practical example
To standardize a packet of mixed-size handouts for A4 printing, load the combined PDF and select A4 portrait. Create the output and check that every page reports the intended dimensions in your viewer. Inspect small labels, because reducing a larger sheet to A4 also reduces the apparent text size.
Tips for a better result
Expect whitespace when proportions differ
The tool preserves aspect ratio and centers the page content. A wide page fitted onto a tall sheet leaves empty space; it is not stretched or cropped to fill the target.
Use print preview
Check the downloaded PDF’s print preview against your printer’s paper size. A printer can apply additional scaling, so confirm whether you want actual size or another fit-to-page adjustment.
Troubleshooting
Why are there blank borders?
The source proportions differ from the target page. Proportional fitting leaves space rather than distorting the contents.
Why did form fields or clickable links disappear?
Those interactive elements are not copied by the resize operation. Keep the original if they are required.
File limits, privacy and keeping your originals
PDFSwan processes document bytes locally in your browser without a document upload. The task limits are 50 MB total input, 60 files, and 300 PDF pages. Actual performance depends on your device and browser memory. Encrypted PDFs are rejected; choose an unlocked copy you are authorized to edit. Keep your originals, because page operations and edits may change bookmarks, forms, links, annotations, and existing digital signatures.
The home page includes Google Analytics and DeanonX site-tracking scripts. Local document processing does not mean the website has no third-party tracking. Download the result before closing the tab, and use Clear workspace to remove files from the active workspace when finished.
