How to Organize PDF Pages: Reorder, Rotate and Remove
A PDF is easier to read when every page is in the right position and orientation. Scanned documents often arrive with a cover at the end, an upside-down sheet in the middle, or an extra blank page. PDFSwan Organize PDF gives you thumbnail previews and page controls so you can fix these problems before downloading a new document.
Open Organize PDF ↗When to use Organize PDF
Choose Organize PDF when the changes apply to individual pages within one PDF. You can move a page earlier or later, rotate it in 90-degree increments, and remove it from the output. The tool does not edit the text or images inside a page. If every page needs the same rotation, Rotate PDF is the quicker option.
Step-by-step instructions
Load one PDF
Open Organize PDF and add your source document. Wait for the file to finish loading and the page previews to appear. Large documents can take longer to render. A preview helps identify a page, but you should also check the full-size output before sharing.
Identify the pages to change
Read the thumbnail grid in order from left to right and top to bottom. The caption identifies the source page and the rotation added in this workspace. After moving pages, source page numbers do not become new output page labels; they help you track where each page came from.
Move pages with the arrows
Use the left arrow under a thumbnail to move that page one position earlier. Use the right arrow to move it one position later. Repeat as necessary. The first page cannot move earlier, and the last page cannot move later. Watch the grid update after every move.
Rotate or remove individual pages
Use the circular arrow to turn a page 90 degrees clockwise per click. Click twice for 180 degrees or three times for 270 degrees. Use the remove button to leave an unwanted page out of the output. Keep at least one page. To restore a removed page, clear the workspace and reload the original.
Create, download and inspect
Set a descriptive File name, select Create PDF, then Download PDF. Review the saved document in a PDF viewer. Confirm the new order, orientation, and page count. If you removed two pages from a 12-page source, the result should contain 10 pages.
A practical example
Imagine a five-page scan whose source order is the cover, page A, a blank sheet, page C, and page B. Remove the blank sheet with its thumbnail button. Move page B one position earlier so it appears before page C. If page B is upside down, rotate it twice. Save the result and confirm that the four remaining pages read cover, A, B, C.
Tips for a better result
Make a short editing checklist
Before changing a long document, note which source pages need moving, rotation, or removal. Use thumbnail captions to track source pages while their positions change. Work through the list, then check the complete output once instead of guessing from memory.
Use removal carefully
Removing a page excludes the whole page from the new document. It does not redact words or pictures on the pages that remain. For sensitive information on a kept page, use a dedicated redaction workflow and verify its result.
Keep the source available
Clear workspace removes the current editing session, so keep your original file. Reordering and copying pages may change bookmarks, forms, links, annotations, and signatures. Existing digital signatures cannot survive editing unchanged; preserve signed originals separately.
Troubleshooting
What does Preview unavailable mean?
The thumbnail renderer could not display that page. A PDF can sometimes load even when its preview fails. Try reloading a valid copy, and check the original in another viewer to identify the affected page before editing.
How do I undo a removal?
There is no dedicated undo button. Clear the workspace and reload the source to start again. The source file on your device is not changed.
Why can I not save an empty document?
The output needs at least one page. Reload the original if you removed every page, then keep the pages you need.
File limits, privacy and keeping your originals
PDFSwan processes document bytes locally in your browser without a document upload. The task limits are 50 MB total input, 60 files, and 300 PDF pages. Actual performance depends on your device and browser memory. Encrypted PDFs are rejected; choose an unlocked copy you are authorized to edit. Keep your originals, because page operations and edits may change bookmarks, forms, links, annotations, and existing digital signatures.
The home page includes Google Analytics and DeanonX site-tracking scripts. Local document processing does not mean the website has no third-party tracking. Download the result before closing the tab, and use Clear workspace to remove files from the active workspace when finished.
Frequently asked questions
Can I drag PDF thumbnails to reorder them?
The current interface uses the earlier and later arrow buttons under each page preview.
Can I combine multiple PDFs in Organize PDF?
Organize PDF takes one source at a time. Merge the files first, download the combined PDF, and open it in Organize PDF.
Does rotating a thumbnail rotate the saved page?
Yes. The rotation you add with the page button is applied when PDFSwan creates the new PDF.
Can I edit existing PDF text here?
No. This tool changes page order, inclusion, and rotation. It does not rewrite text inside a page.
Ready to try it?
Follow the steps with a copy of your document, then check the downloaded result before sharing it.
