How to Remove Unwanted Pages from a PDF
Blank sheets, duplicate scans, and irrelevant appendices can make a PDF harder to use. PDFSwan Remove pages lets you identify unwanted page positions and save a new document containing everything else in its existing order.
Open Remove pages ↗When to use Remove pages
Use Remove pages when you know which page numbers to exclude. If you prefer to inspect thumbnails and remove pages visually, use Organize PDF. Removing whole pages is different from redacting sensitive words on pages that remain in the document.
Step-by-step instructions
Load the source file
Open the Remove pages workspace using the button above. Choose the source file from your device or drag it into the drop area. Wait for preparation to finish and check the displayed filename. Work from a copy you can retain for comparison, and clear the workspace if you selected the wrong source.
Enter Pages to remove
Replace the default 1 with the unwanted positions. Use 3 for a single page, 3-5 for a range, or 3-5, 9 for several selections. The field uses physical positions from the beginning of the file, including covers and front matter.
Keep at least one page
The remaining pages stay in source order. There must be at least one page left in the output. Before creating the PDF, compare the selected positions against the original viewer’s page counter.
Download and verify the result
After processing finishes, select Download PDF. Save the new file before closing the tab or creating another result. Open the actual download in a compatible application and compare it with the source. Check the content and format you need rather than relying only on the success message.
A practical example
A 12-page scan has an accidental blank at position 4 and an unrelated sheet at position 11. Enter 4, 11, create the new PDF, and check that it has 10 pages. Review the transitions around those removed sheets to ensure that the intended content remains.
Tips for a better result
Use the right selection direction
This field names the pages to discard. Split PDF and Extract pages instead ask for the pages to keep. Choose the tool whose selection matches your task to reduce mistakes.
Preserve the original
The download is a new document and the source is unchanged. Keep that source until you have checked all retained content. Bookmarks, forms, links, annotations, and existing signatures can be affected by page-copy operations.
Troubleshooting
Why does my range fail?
Use existing page positions, commas, and ascending ranges such as 2-4. Page 0 and positions beyond the source page count are invalid.
Why can I not remove every page?
The result must contain at least one page. Adjust your selection so some content remains.
File limits, privacy and keeping your originals
PDFSwan processes document bytes locally in your browser without a document upload. The task limits are 50 MB total input, 60 files, and 300 PDF pages. Actual performance depends on your device and browser memory. Encrypted PDFs are rejected; choose an unlocked copy you are authorized to edit. Keep your originals, because page operations and edits may change bookmarks, forms, links, annotations, and existing digital signatures.
The home page includes Google Analytics and DeanonX site-tracking scripts. Local document processing does not mean the website has no third-party tracking. Download the result before closing the tab, and use Clear workspace to remove files from the active workspace when finished.
Frequently asked questions
Can I undo a removal?
Your original file remains available. Reload it and generate a different selection.
Does this erase private information on kept pages?
No. It removes selected whole pages from the new output; it is not a redaction tool.
Ready to try it?
Follow the steps with a copy of your document, then check the downloaded result before sharing it.
