How to Split Every PDF Page into Separate Files
Separate PDF files are useful when each page belongs to a different record or needs to be filed independently. PDFSwan Split into files creates a one-page PDF for every source page and packages them together in one ZIP archive.
Open Split into files ↗When to use Split into files
Choose this tool for automatic one-file-per-page output. The separate Split PDF tool instead collects selected ranges into one PDF. This workspace does not group chapters or detect document boundaries; every physical page becomes its own file.
Step-by-step instructions
Load the source file
Open the Split into files workspace using the button above. Choose the source file from your device or drag it into the drop area. Wait for preparation to finish and check the displayed filename. Work from a copy you can retain for comparison, and clear the workspace if you selected the wrong source.
Check the pages to include
All pages in the source are split, including covers and blanks. If you want only a subset, extract those pages into a smaller PDF first and load that document here.
Create the ZIP archive
There are no range or chapter settings. Set File name and select Create ZIP. The tool creates sequential filenames such as page-001.pdf and page-002.pdf inside the archive.
Download and verify the result
After processing finishes, select Download ZIP. Save the new file before closing the tab or creating another result. Open the actual download in a compatible application and compare it with the source. Check the content and format you need rather than relying only on the success message.
A practical example
For a 10-page packet containing one receipt per page, load the packet and create the ZIP. Extract it to a folder and confirm that there are 10 PDFs. Open the first and last, then rename the files with meaningful receipt identifiers before filing them.
Tips for a better result
Extract before organizing
The ZIP is a container. Use your device’s archive controls to extract its files before uploading individual PDFs elsewhere. Keep the numeric filename prefix until you finish checking the source sequence.
Consider multi-page records
If a receipt or letter spans two pages, this tool separates those pages. Use range-based Split PDF to save a multi-page record together, or merge its individual files afterward.
Troubleshooting
Why did a two-page letter become two PDFs?
The tool always creates one PDF per page. Use Split PDF with the letter’s page range to keep it in one output.
Why is a large job slow?
Creating many PDFs and packaging the ZIP uses browser memory. Work with smaller source sections if necessary.
File limits, privacy and keeping your originals
PDFSwan processes document bytes locally in your browser without a document upload. The task limits are 50 MB total input, 60 files, and 300 PDF pages. Actual performance depends on your device and browser memory. Encrypted PDFs are rejected; choose an unlocked copy you are authorized to edit. Keep your originals, because page operations and edits may change bookmarks, forms, links, annotations, and existing digital signatures.
The home page includes Google Analytics and DeanonX site-tracking scripts. Local document processing does not mean the website has no third-party tracking. Download the result before closing the tab, and use Clear workspace to remove files from the active workspace when finished.
